Area info part IV: Castles / "Blaues Wunder"

Schloß Pillnitz

Is located very charming directly at the banks of the Elbe river southeast of the city boundaries. Already in 1720 the existing Renaissance castle was expanded by the water and hill palace as summer residence. The new palace was constructed at the same place where 1818 the old castle was destroyed by fire. A special attraction at the park is the tree-high japaness Kamelie. Planted in the 18. century it is at blooms every year.

Schloß Albrechtsberg

Is perfectly integrated in a wonderful panorama at the Loschwitzhang over the Elbe river.

One of the symbols of Dresden is the hanging bridge „Blaues Wunder“ built 1891-93 at the district Loschwitz. With a total length of 226 mtrs and a length between the bank piers of approx. 141 mtrs it is considered a technical masterpiece of that time.
